Original Research By Young Twinkle Students (ORBYTS): Ephemeris Refinement of Transiting Exoplanets III
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report photometric follow-up observations of thirteen exoplanets (HATS-1 b, HATS-2 HATS-3 HAT-P-18 HAT-P-27 HAT-P-30 HAT-P-55 KELT-4A WASP-25 WASP-42 WASP-57 WASP-61 b and WASP-123 b), as part the Original Research By Young Twinkle Students (ORBYTS) programme. All these planets are potentially viable targets for atmospheric characterisation our data, which were taken using LCOGT network ground-based telescopes, will be combined with from other users ExoClock to ensure that transit times continue well-known, far into future.

Comparative Habitability of Transiting Exoplanets
Exoplanet habitability is traditionally assessed by comparing a planet’s semi-major axis to the location of its host star’s “habitable zone,” the shell around a star for which Earth-like planets can possess liquid surface water. The Kepler space telescope has discovered numerous planet candidates near the habitable zone, and many more are expected from missions such as K2, TESS and PLATO. These...
متن کاملObservations of Transiting Exoplanets with Differential Photometry
Preliminary observations and computational methods for analysis are presented for observing celestial objects with time-varying intensity, in particular transiting exoplanets. Transits occur when a planet orbiting a star other than the sun (an exoplanet) passes between the Earth and the host star, slightly dimming the apparent intensity of the star. CCD images of the host star of one such exopl...
متن کاملImproved modeling of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect for transiting exoplanets
We present an improved formula for the anomalous radial velocity of the star during planetary transits due to the Rossiter-McLaughlin (RM) effect. The improvement comes from a more realistic description of the stellar absorption line profiles, taking into account stellar rotation, macroturbulence, thermal broadening, pressure broadening, and instrumental broadening. Although the formula is deri...
متن کاملUsing color photometry to separate transiting exoplanets from false positives
The radial velocity technique is currently used to classify transiting objects. While capable of identifying grazing binary eclipses, this technique cannot reliably identify blends, a chance overlap of a faint background eclipsing binary with an ordinary foreground star. Blends generally have no observable radial velocity shifts, as the foreground star is brighter by several magnitudes and ther...
